This Harris' hawk has recently moved into my neighborhood with her mate. The pair can be seen soaring above our residence and local golf course searching for food and chasing each other in the sky. I first noticed them when one was perched on top of the flagpole in my front yard. The nest is well concealed on the fringe of the golf course.
The Harris' hawk is usually found in Mexico and a small area of the arid southwest USA. When they hunt for food, it is usually done in pairs or in a pack like wolves. They have been used to rid areas of pigeons, like Trafalger Square in London and the Wimbledon tennis facilities. Small rodents, rabbits, snakes and smaller avians are part of their diet.
