This puma was captured peering out of a protective hollow log. Poachers have reduced the number of these beautiful animals in Costa Rica. Allegedly there are less than 250 of these cat like mammals left in Costa Rica. Most are in the Osa Peninsula. Costa Rica has recently banned all hunting, even for sportsmen, in an attempt to preserve all the wildlife in the country. The Puma is also known as a cougar or a mountain lion. They roam throughout many regions of North America and are considered a predatory animal.
