A common black hawk, Buteogallus Anthracinus, seeks food while perched above the Manuel Antonio National Park in Quepos, Costa Rica. The common black hawk is frequently seen in Mexico and Central America. It hunts from a low perch, preying on crustaceans, frogs, fish, and reptiles. During summer month they might be seen in southern Utah and while in Texas. The adult common black hawk is uniformly blackish, but the tail has a broad white band and a white tip on the tail feathers. Their numbers are declining and are usually found along rivers, streams and ocean edges.
