One of the eaglet's parents returns to the nest after flying above the nest. Only one of the eaglets can be seen looking up toward the incoming parent. The other parent had departed the nest and could be seen flying above the Colorado River, near Fruita, CO, in search of food.
There are currently three eaglets in the nest. However, as they start to grow the weakest of the threesome could be pushed out or killed by his/her siblings. Additionally, when the eaglets become fledglings and begin their flying lessons approximately forty percent of the first time flyers are injured and die.
The parents will continue to feed these eaglets until they leave the nest, which is about twelve weeks after their birth. At the time of their departure the eaglets turned fledglings will weigh a pound or two more than their parents but will lose the extra weight as they learn to hunt and find food.
