A young Embara Indian man poles a canoe up the Chagres river toward his village. The village is about 1.5 hours from Panama City, Panama. Tourists regularly ride these canoes to visit the indigenous peoples village and enjoy their customs and food. The temporary tattoo on his shoulder is done with henna inks and lasts for about a week. Changing the designs when the inks fade. There are approximately 33,000 Embara Indians living in Panama in small villages throughout the rain forests.
