This image of an American Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, was captured near Fruita, Mesa County, Colorado close to the Colorado River. As it prepared to lift off in flight a warning was sounded announcing to all those who could hear it.
This eagle is part of a nesting pair that has two young eaglets in their nest. This adult was preparing to leave the area of the nest as the other one returned. It seems that the pair are taking turns seeking food and guarding the nest. American bald eagles pair for life...
