southern humpback whale starts a dive and gives a perfect waterfall fluke image to all the whale watchers. This image was captured near the Pearl Islands, Isla Contadora, Panama.
The southern humpback whale migrates from the southern tip of South America to the warm Pacific waters around the Pearl Islands, Panama for mating and birthing. They will stay in the Panama area from July until October and then head back to the southern hemisphere.
Whale watching Panama is a tremendous experience. During the whale watching season it is almost impossible not to see whales during the day on the boat. The first day we saw more whales by 10:30am than we had ever seen in Hawaii, Oregon, Newfoundland, Alaska and California combined.
