These proud parents, American Bald Eagles, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, watch over their nest. At this time, it is either eggs or hatchlings in the nest. There have been no little grey heads popping up above the edge of the nest but the eagle on the left spent a good portion of the morning going in and out of the nest while the eagle on the right stood guard.
This nest was saved by Wildlife Officers from the Colorado Department of Wildlife after it had been blown over by a strong wind storm in 2013. They used a crane and metal supports to replace the nest. These eagles returned this year to raise a new family in their refurbished and rescued nest. Image taken near Fruita, Colorado in Mesa County close to the Colorado river.
