This Sword Dancer is entertaining a street crowd, including my father the photographer, in Nanking, China during World War Two. My father was assigned to the American Embassy as the Assistant Naval Attache and had many contacts with the populace. On the back of this image he wrote, "An acrobatic dancer, he jumps, and twists yelling and singing and during the entire dance whirling the large sword over his head or jumping over it. It is quite a sight even tho I can't understand the story he tells during the dance". Photo was taken circa 1944-45. Taken with a Zeiss Ikon 120 film camera.
