This proud pair of American Bald Eagles, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, are perched in a cottonwood tree above the Colorado River near Fruita, Mesa County, Colorado. They recently had lost their nest and eggs to a strong wind storm that had blown through the area. Now, they are back to work seeking food from the river and surrounding fields. The male eagle is the smaller of the two and is perched on the upper branch.
