Three quail eggs, unguarded by the parents, but protected by the cholla cactus plant. The needles of the cholla cactus plant help keep predators out of the nest.
This nest was approximately three feet off the ground in the branches of the cholla plant. Hiking through the desert in Maricopa County, near Carefree, Arizona this nest was difficult to see because of the branches but careful placement of the lens allowed the clear shot.
