This red winged blackbird, Agelaius phoeniceus, is right at home in the reeds that surround a pond in Fruita, CO. These birds are very sensitive to movement and fly away at any activity toward their perch. This bird and a few others of the same species have been nesting in the marsh and reeds in this pond for the winter. Their activity has increased since the weather has been getting warmer.
