This photograph was taken circa 1944-45 in Nanking, China by my father. He wrote on the back of the image, "Chinese look at you like this all the time. I was taking a picture of the river. These fellows and dozens of others were watching me. All I did was turn around and -snap- there was the picture. The little fellow in the foreground is giving me a "ha boo ha" (how are you)". Dad was the Assistant Naval Attache at the American Embassy in Nanking and had numerous contacts with the local population.
