A pair of red-tailed hawks, Buteo jamaicensis, mate on a cottonwood tree branch in Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado. This brief encounter took place in Lincoln Park, a very popular park in Grand Junction. The pair are nesting in another tree near by. They put on a very interesting public display of affection prior to mating. They sang to either other, flew around each other, jumped on the branches, flew away, returned and then mated. The circle of life and love. The courtship and PDA was a beautiful sight.
