A nesting pair of American Bald Eagles, Haliaeetus leucocephalus, guard their nest, high in a cottonwood tree along the Colorado River in Mesa County, Colorado. Eagles pair for life and take turns caring for their eggs and then the eaglets after they are hatched. Their nests can weigh over 1000 pounds.
