A rainbow fades over Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, leaving a light reflection on the water. The RMNP is located in the north central portion of Colorado, about 30 miles from Boulder and right on the city limits of Estes Park. The park is comprised of 265,761 acres and the home to lots of wildlife. The elk are probably the most visible because of the lack of concern toward humans during the rut which takes place in the fall. Other wildlife include, big horn sheep, moose, black bear, mountain lions and mule deer. Lots of little critters like pikas and chipmunks are abundant. The park straddles the continental divide and is home to the headwaters of the Colorado River. The drive over the continental divide is on Trail Ridge road which is only open from approximately Memorial Day, May 30, until the end of September each year. A drive worth taking. Image captured with a Canon 60D.
