This American Bald Eagle flying directly above me is screaming at me because I was getting a little too close to the nest for their comfort. The nest has three eaglets that are about two weeks old and the protective parent was doing his/her job. I moved away to about 150 yards from the nest and everyone was happy.
The bald eagle was seriously diminished in number in the lower forty-eight state due to shooting, pesticides and human encroachment. An intense recovery program by state and federal wildlife agencies with the help of civilian volunteers the bald eagle is no longer on the endangered species list.
This eagle's nest is high in a cottonwood tree near the Colorado River in Mesa County, near Fruita, Colorado, where searching for fish to feed the nesting eaglets is of prime importance.
