This scarlet macaw sits proudly in a tree near Cana Blanca, Panama which is close to the city of David. These birds are rare to the mainland of Panama and are usually found on the island of Coiba. However, a breeding pair was donated to a finca (farm/ranch) in Cana Blanca about twenty years ago and they have grown into a flock of over 20 birds. They can be seen flying over the area throughout the year. Macaws mate for life and can live up to 70 years. They usually produce two fledglings a year. The fledglings leave their parents after about one year. A macaw reaches sexual maturity at about five years.
